With the transition to digital television coming in February, people are confused about whether it will affect them or not, even some proponents of RVs are not sure if they need a TV converter box to receive digital TV using the antenna of their vehicles recreation. Here's the question I recently received and the answer I gave. I hope this information will dispel the most common questions are about Digital TV.
I'm still confused about the digital TV thing. Our 2006 RV is the cable and the Internet but if we're not at the campground we need a converter box to receive TV signals after us?

Thank you for your question. There is much confusion about the change to digital television broadcasts to be held February 17, 2009.
If you do not have a TV with a digital tuner, you will not be able to receive all stations using an antenna, all you will get is snow.
If you are in a campground with cable TV, you will be able to receive television whether your TV has a digital tuner or analog tuner.
Since your RV is a 2006 model, there is a good chance that you will need a converter box for each TV in your RV to watch TV using an antenna.
The Government required that all televisions sold after 1 March 2007, must have digital tuners. The TV in your RV have been made before that date.
You say that your RV is "Cable and Internet." Unfortunately, this does not mean that it is the digital television ready. This simply means that the cable and wiring to connect your TV and computer have been pre-wired in when they built unit.
The first thing I would do is find the owner's manual for your TV / TV. The manual tell you exactly if it has a digital tuner. If you do not see anything in the manual of a digital tuner, then you will need a converter.
If you Still not sure, try to find the model number of your TV (which is sometimes hard in an RV because televisions are generally integrated in a cabinet). Once you find the model number, go to the website of TV manufacturers and watch your TV specifications. If the specifications do not mention "digital tuner" then you will need a converter.
The digital converters can cost as little as $ 40.00 over $ 100.00 (depending on the options box comes with).
The boxes are available in stores electronic, Walmart, K-Mart, etc.
Now, here's the GOOD NEWS. There is a program funded by the government to help offset the cost Buying a converter box for televisions without digital tuners.
This program is called the "TV Converter Box Coupon Program". When you go to their site you fill out a simple form and you can receive up to two coupons worth $ 40.00 each for the purchase of a converter.
These coupons appearance that credit cards are accepted at places like Best Buy, etc. Here's the catch: these coupons are good only for 90 days after the date they were sent to you. There is a limit of 2 coupons per household.
The last I heard, demand for these bonds was so great that there was a possibility that there was not enough of them in mid-January, unless they received more government funding.
The government website for the coupons is www.dtv2009.gov Hopefully we've cleared up any confusion you might have.
