As Halloween nears every year, not only do people become more aware of things that go bump in the night, but many put decorations everywhere. For some of these people, that means smoke machines, life-sized headstones, piped-in scary music and mechanical figures that jump out when you walk by. For people like me who live much of their lives online, though, decorations for Halloween take other forms entirely. That’s because we decorate our online worlds with downloadable art, like free vintage halloween clip art. Digital images like this lets us embellish word processing documents, Web sites, blogs, PowerPoint presentations and much more, which makes our work and play on the Internet that much more fun.
For those who make scrapbooks, there are even more uses for the digital images found on the Web. There are many sites that offer wonderful selections of Halloween scrapbook paper and free Halloween masks that are so helpful when scrapbooking. Free images like this help people create who might not be able to afford it otherwise. Believe it or not, that actually helps all of us, because the more beauty and creativity there is in the world, the more we all benefit.
It’s pretty amazing to see the other types of projects people make with the free Halloween images they find online too. I recently ran across some fun altered art that combine re-purposed materials and new images. These projects were built out of vintage books about Halloween for children that were deconstructed and reconstructed, adding blank pages, embellishments, such as rhinestones and beads, and new images that turned them into journals. I’ve also seen Halloween clip art used in jewelry. What a great use of free resources! Getting those images free really helps jewelry designers who work from home, because they usually don’t charge enough to make a decent profit. Free materials obviously allow them to optimize their resources.
If you take a moment to look on the Internet for Halloween crafts people make themselves, I bet you’ll find a lot more examples than I’ve given. They’re probably endless!
